BMWBlog have posted photos of the long-awaited 2009 BMW Z4 roadster, and here’s a shock: it’s got an absolutely massive rear end. Seriously, if Sir Mix-A-Lot heads up to Vancouver, boy, have we got the car for him!

Is it just me, or does this guy look like a bit like he’s in a bathtub?

WheelsBlog has got more interesting news on this subject, listing actual specs.  You’ve probably already noticed in the photos that it’s got a retractable hardtop, but the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter in-line 6 in the top-of-the-line Z4 sDrive35i that features 300 HP and 300 lb-ft of torque may come as a bit of a pleasant surprise.   If you’re unlucky enough to get the lower-line version Z4 sDrive30i from Santa The Easter Bunny, your 3.0-liter in-line 6 will unfortunately only feature natural aspiration and a mere 255 HP.

Additionally, a 6-speed manual trans will be available for both trim levels.  As far as automatic options are concerned, the sDrive35i will also reportedly offer the option of a 7-speed dual-clutch sport automatic gearbox, while the 30i will stick with a 6-speed and lose the dual-clutch for its sport auto option.  And yes, looking at the photos, there will be iDrive.  Oh yes, There Will Be iDrive.  No word as yet on whether or not Chris Bangle intends to drink your milkshake as well.

Plenty of other dimensional information is available, and the leaked brochure photos that have been posted list a possible release date as May 9, 2009, but the one question I’ve got is this: what does it weigh?  And I’m not just asking because it’s probably got more back than I do.  Inquiring minds…
