Revealed: Aston Martin Rapide – First Picture
Tue, Apr 14, 2009

The last time we saw a “real” picture of the Aston Martin Rapide, it was really nothing more than a computer generated image. Now, we give you the first real picture to hit the interwebs.
If you can’t see why I’m calling this car Scarface, follow the jump.
From the image, we can tell that there are very few differences between the production model and the concept. The most surprising and different design element is undoubtedly the character line that runs from the front fender vent rearwards. It strikes me as being a little too Tony Montana. I guess I’m just used to cleaner, less Chris Bangle-infleunced, designs from Aston.
As for what’s under the hood, word is that a 470 hp V12 will be under the hood. Not very green, then. Unless it’s painted in Aston racing livery a.k.a. British Racing Green.
Aston has clearly gone for a more form-centric design compared to the function-centric Porsche Panamera. I’m not sure which one will sell better. I guess it all depends on whether the well-heeled want to lap the ‘Ring with their four-seater or make a James Bond-style arrival.

I’ve got to agree with Howie here, this car looks beautiful (checkout our CarThrottle post on the Rapide – there’s another released shot in there which is really stunning.
It looks like Porsche are going to have to up their game!
Thanks Adnan!
I’m not sure how I feel about the character line in question. I like how it catches the light in the same way as the ridge over the rear wheels, but I wonder how it would look without it.
