Breaking: Williams F1 FW32 Spyshot
Autosport has managed to secure the first spy shot of the 2010 Williams F1 car as it broke cover and tested at Silverstone earlier today. For more on the FW32 and how it differs from 2009’s FW31, click the photo to read the Autosport article about it. Note: livery is not yet complete for this car, so this is likely not what the finished design will look like when it takes to the track for Bahrain on March 14th.

1st Official Shot: Alfa Romeo Giulietta/Milano

While word on the Milanese street is that the Milano name has been dropped, it’s not entirely clear what name will be used in its place. Giulietta? Perhaps. But you’re no more likely to guess it correctly than you are to guess when Ovechkin will be returning from his “day-to-day” knee injury. All I care about is his on-ice presence when the Capitals come to Edmonton on December 19th. I have tickets, so he’d better be there. Or I’ll start flinging my feces onto the ice. Oh, I’d do it.
Getting back to the new Alfa, this will be one of the first models that parent company Fiat brings to North America through its newly-acquired Chrysler network. From what we can tell from this first (and only) shot, the lines aren’t too bad. Maybe there’s too much current-gen Subaru Impreza in the profile, but at least the MiTo’s unlovable front end looks have been toned down into something more digestible. Petrol powerplants are expected to be range from a 120hp 1.4L to a 235hp turbo 1.7L, although it remains to be seen which models we’ll get on this side of the pond.
We’ll have more edge-of-your-seat Chrysler/Fiat/Alfa news, whenever someone else decides to leak it.

Automotive Abominations in Kiev, Ukraine

While I myself am Canadian, my father’s family originates from the Ukraine. Ok, it was about 100 years ago that they came to Alberta to farm these fertile lands, but the Ukraine is still their second home. According to English Russia, a broken-English website chronicling all things strange and wonderful in the former Soviet Union, the Ukraine my forefathers left is starkly different from the one today.
In terms of cars down on the Kiev street, there’s no shortage of expensive, flashy rides. It’s just the way in the former USSR, I suppose, but do they really have to modify them so… so… tastelessly?
The Audi R8 has no right to look that objectionable. Neither to the rest of the cars below. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 BMW 3-Series Caught Oot and Aboot

This is a video of the 2012 BMW 3-series out for a drive. BMW is still annoyingly good at camouflaging their upcoming models with that swirly hypno-camo, but at least we can see a side profile and the rear. For 2012, a 340i is rumoured to be the top model (besides the M3, obviously) producing 360 horsepower.
Also rumoured is a 4 cylinder engine with twin turbos under the hood. BMW has already hinted at using 4 and even 3 cylinder engines to keep in line with the new fuel efficiency standards, so this rumour is likely true.
Judging from the dual exhausts, this is like the 340i we are seeing and hearing. It also sounds as if Infiniti has really caught BMW’s attention as that exhaust note is now more in line with that of the G37. You probably also noted the rather Passat-ish looking tail lights, don’t worry, those are just cover-ups – expect the real ones to look more like the X1 and F01 7-series.
Video below the fold.

Why Did Clarkson Drive a Twingo Off the Belfast Docks?

Even for a Top Gear stunt, this one is pretty wild. With Season 14 of every gearhead’s favourite show barely a month away, filming is in full swing for the new episodes. Unforunately, Top Gear won’t tell us the circumstances of this photo and the one after the jump, so we’re left to speculate.
Did Jeremy hate it so much he decided to destroy the baby Renault? Did Jeremy off himself? Did the Stig?
Check out the second photo below.

All-New BMW M5 Spotted on the ‘Ring
In terms of the 5-series, the all-new GT is pretty much getting all the lime light. It should take all the attention that it can get because recent spy shots are indicating that an all new M5 is on its way soon, which will surely take away the GT’s spotlight.
BMW is annoyingly good and comouflaging their upcoming cars, but they can’t hide the quad exaust in the rear nor the M styled front bumper.
Style is just a small, probably insignificant piece of the puzzle however. We’re more interested in what’s under the hood. Rumours are saying that the 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 found in the X5 M and the X6 M will take over from the naturally-aspirated 5 litre V10. Seems like a downgrade? Well, not exactly. The new unit in the X twins produces 555 horses and 500 pounds feet of torque. The V10 produces 500 horses and 383 foot torque. Finally, an M sedan with torquiness.
The “downgrade” in engine size likely has to do with new stricter fuel efficiency standards. In any event, the new engine will likely be BMW’s answer to the CTS-V….even though BMW supposedly doesn’t consider Cadillac to be competition.
Oh well, competition is always good for the consumer. Let’s see what you’ve got, BMW.

Spy Shots: 2012 BMW 1-Series Hatch

While the current gen 1-series is cool, it is a flawed vehicle. We can’t get the hatchback in North America, which makes me sad, and the back seats are miserable, which destroys any sense of real practicality. However, the 300hp twin-turbo powerplant is glorious. If these two things could be reconciled, I would be in love. Enter the 2nd gen 1-series, pictured here. Apparently, the 1-series hatch will be making its way across the pond, and should be offered with some smaller engines in addition to the existing straight sixes. Some added refinements to the engine line-up should be giving us some more power as well. The hatch will be the first to arrive, followed by coupe and convertible body styles, and possibly even a shooting brake and an M1. Sounds like the dream car for us hot hatch fanatics.
Gotta hate that BMW brand camo though. It actually works pretty well. Follow below for more spy shot goodness. Read the rest of this entry »

2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni

Wait Peter, you’re saying, don’t you mean the LP560-4, not LP550-2? Why did the first number drop by 10, and the second by 2? And who is Valentino Balboni?
Well, Lambo has decided to make a lighter, rear-wheel-drive version of its AWD Gallardo. The “2″ indicates the number of wheels driven, and the 550 is the power output for this new, less expensive model. As for Valentino Balboni, it’s called Google – use it.
Though to call this LP550-2 an entry-level model would be to miss the point. I’ll tell you why and show you some spyshots below.

Spyshots: Ferrari 599 Scuderia

Looks like a normal enough Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, no?
From the front, yes, but the exhaust has a different story to tell.

Spyshot: Acura ZDX Crossover Coupe

As we’ve seen before here and here, Acura is planning a new luxury crossover coupe. This segment is, of course, the long lost holy grail of car design – it is everything to everyone and nothing to anyone. I could go on all day about the BMW X6 and the miserable trend it has started, but it would hurt too much to think about any further – after the jump.
